As trendsetters descend upon London Fashion Week, a collection of our silk scarves have been hand-painted by some of the UK’s hottest designers and are being auctioned for Save the Children by Mary Portas’ Living & Giving shops.
Left to Right – Shuby, Ali Mapletoft, Julien Macdonald, Marc McGreevy, Pam Glew
The personalised designs from the likes of Julien MacDonald and May Fair Hotel artist in residence Marc McGreevy visualise their own childhood memories in support of Save the Children’s newborn campaign. Launching on eBay on Thursday 13th February, all nine Handpicked scarves are available to the highest bidder when the action closes 10 days later on Sunday 24th February. Visit http://www.savethechildren.org.uk/handpicked to find out more and make a bid.
Age of Reason provided our Anarchy Jack scarves for the artists to work on.
The Handpicked collection includes earthy palettes, feminine florals and vibrant motifs on an Age of Reason silk scarf in various sizes. They include Julien MacDonalds embellished handkerchief scarf, as well as Marc McGreevy’s tonal coloured hand-drawn silhouette of Alek Wek. Every penny of profit goes to Save the Children who help the most vulnerable children and their families across the world.
Julien MacDonald, whose latest collection is being show at LFW on 15th February, said:
“Being approached to create a bold scarf print for Save the Children was an honour. I immediately wanted it to be fun and colourful! Drawing from the classic childlike inspiration of a children’s party, the scarf encompasses the energetic and lively feel that this project portrays, and I had a lot of fun producing it!”
As scarves dominate the Spring/Summer 2014 collections of Marc Jacobs, Donna Karan and Etro, Save the Children’s Mary’s Living & Giving shops have stocked up on some of the best cut-price designer examples – offering bargain hunters top brands at amazing value. A selection of these are also available on eBay for fashion-savvy bargain-hunters.
Erica Charles at Mary’s Living & Giving Shop said:
“We are privileged to have the support of some of the best known fashion houses when it comes to donating stock to the Mary’s Living & Giving Shops for Save the Children. This means that we in turn can offer our shoppers unrivalled opportunity to buy some of the best value and bespoke designer items around. Some of the scarves that are on offer are exclusive one-off pieces; statement pieces that will take you right through to Sping/Summer next year! There’s no better way to update your wardrobe, and what’s even more exciting, is that you are doing it whilst supporting Save the Children’s work – providing life-saving maternal care for new mums and their babies across the world.”
